Learn More About Hickory Run State Park
There are a number of iconic spots to visit in the park even beyond Boulder Field (though you’ll still want to walk across its unusual grounds). Hawk Falls and Sand Spring Lake offer a cooling respite during the warm summer months. Trails like Shades of Death and Fireline provide sweeping views of other landmarks, such as Stametz Dam and Lehigh Gorge, as well as views of lakes, waterfalls, and rhododendron bushes that bloom from mid-June through mid-July.
Other popular activities that visitors enjoy in Hickory Run State Park include warm weather recreation like fishing in Mud Run or Hickory Run, swimming in Sand Spring Lake, or playing disc golf in the Sand Spring Day-Use Area. In the winter, Sand Spring Trail is renowned for its cross-country skiing conditions.
Hickory Run State Park, like most Pennsylvania state parks, is open all year long, from sunrise until sunset, though certain portions of the park are seasonal, such as beach areas. Day-use areas are closed off at dusk.
